Job Description

We have a great opportunity for a career minded individual to join our waste team as the Mechanical & Electrical Technician to be based from Mogden Sewage Treatment Works.

As the Successful candidate you will be responsible for carrying out the planned and defect maintenance of FLIP (Flooding Improvement Process) devices throughout the Thames Water area. You will inspect, fault diagnose and maintain devices fitted at properties, in a safe efficient, timely and effective manner with minimum supervision.
You will join a specialist team responsible for maintaining FLIP devices throughout the Thames Water region. This is the only team maintaining these Active Drainage Devices that are crucial to the protection of properties from flooding from the Main Sewers.

Working on specialist equipment, you will have the opportunity to work on processes that will provide you with skills and experience that cannot be gained elsewhere in the company.

You will be working in a small close-knit team, often in Central London making a real impact upon customers with properties at risk of flooding.

PPE, Tools and Van will be provided.

What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical and Electrical Technician
  • Carry out routine planned preventative and reactive maintenance of Sewage drainage System Flip devices
  • Carry out electrical or mechanical installation work at properties and sites at which Flip devices are installed
  • Trouble shooting electrical mechanical fault finding.
  • Reporting on the condition of Flip devices and identifying spares and Bought in Service requirements
  • Provide specialist technical advice where appropriate with up-to-date technical knowledge, and provide training support for technical trainees
  • Liaising with external customers at properties at which Flip devices are installed
  • Demonstrate adherence to Health and Safety policies
  • Fit to carry out lifting of manhole lids in some difficult to access positions.
  • Fit to be able to lift and return various manhole lids daily (approx. 5 lids a day)
  • Fit to climb up and down ladders
Base Location - Mogden - Isleworth - TW7 7LW
38 hours per week Monday-Friday.7:30 am -3:36pm plus the inclusion onto a on standby rota for which you will receive additional Payment.
All PPE, Tools plus the provision of a Van when on duty and on call.

What you should bring to the role
  • You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems working in a “true multi-skilled” capacity.
  • Previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering with an upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ2/3 is crucial.
  • Ideally you will have been upskilled with a mechanical qualification to allow inspecting, maintaining, fault diagnosing, testing, installing, modifying or repairing mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently.
  • For individuals with mechanical or electrical experience only, we will look to develop the right people to dual skilled status.
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are crucial.
  • The work will require physical fitness; as you will work in restricted spaces with successful completion of the appropriate training.
  • A valid driving licence is essential and all necessary equipment such as vehicles and tools are provided.
