Job Description

Mechanical Maintenance Technician
Location: Warwick
Salary: Competitive
Hours: Full-time, site-based
Benefits: Excellent pension, generous holidays, long-term stability, training & development, varied estate

Ready to Step Away from Industrial Maintenance?
If you are coming from manufacturing, FMCG, heavy industry or large-scale facilities and are fed up with production-driven pressure, night shifts, call-outs and breakdowns stopping the line, this role offers a genuinely different pace, without sacrificing technical challenge.
We are recruiting on behalf of a leading UK Estate with a world-class campus, where the focus is on planned, professional maintenance, not firefighting for production output.
This is a chance to use your mechanical skillset in a clean, well-managed, non-industrial environment, supporting teaching, research and student life rather than machines chasing KPIs.

What Makes This Different?
  • No production lines
  • No 24/7 industrial shift patterns
  • No “get it running at any cost” culture
  • One large, varied site, not multiple factories
  • Time to diagnose, repair and do the job properly

Instead, you’ll work across a diverse estate of academic buildings, labs, accommodation and public spaces, maintaining systems that matter, but without the constant pressure of manufacturing downtime.

The Role
You will provide planned and reactive mechanical maintenance across a large campus, covering:
  • HVAC and ventilation systems
  • LPHW boiler plant and gas-fired equipment
  • Plumbing and water services
  • Refrigeration and associated plant
  • BMS-linked systems, motors and mechanical assets
Your day-to-day will include:
  • Responding to breakdowns in a calm, controlled environment
  • Carrying out structured PPMs and remedial works
  • Fault-finding across a broad range of building services
  • Supporting minor projects, refurbishments and upgrades
  • Coordinating with other trades and specialist contractors
  • Ensuring compliance, permits and safety standards are met
  • Keeping accurate digital job and service records
Your work directly supports thousands of people on site — students, researchers and staff — making this a visible and genuinely valued role.

About You
This role suits an engineer who enjoys variety, problem-solving and doing things properly especially someone looking to step away from industrial or factory-based maintenance.
Essential:
  • Mechanical apprenticeship or equivalent hands-on experience
  • Level 3 qualification in Plumbing & Heating, HVAC or Refrigeration
  • Unvented Hot Water (G3 / 3345 or equivalent)
  • Experience with PPM and reactive maintenance
  • Strong fault-finding capability
  • Understanding of statutory compliance
  • Confined spaces / working at height awareness
  • Asbestos awareness
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Comfortable using electronic job systems
Desirable:
  • Gas Safe certification
Why Engineers Move Into This Type of Role
  • Better work–life balance
  • Predictable workload and structure
  • Long-term job security
  • Strong public-sector pension
  • Time to work safely and methodically
  • A respected, professional working environment
