Mechanical Engineer - Building Services About the Role We are seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer to join our Building Services team. You will work on the design and delivery of innovative MEP solutions across a diverse range of construction projects, from concept through to completion. This role is based at our main office, with the possibility of working from our Exeter office.

Key Responsibilities- Design mechanical building services systems including HVAC, domestic water services, and above ground drainage for a variety of building types
- Conduct heating and cooling load calculations, equipment selection, and system sizing
- Prepare detailed MEP design drawings, specifications, and technical reports using 3D BIM and CAD
- Develop sustainable and energy-efficient solutions that consider maintenance, life cycle, running costs, carbon emissions and end user experience
- Work on renewable energy systems and large-scale infrastructure projects
- Undertake energy modelling to support sustainability goals and planning requirements
- Conduct overheating risk assessments and engineering studies including planning support and sustainability statements
- Ensure all designs comply with current building regulations and industry standards
- Collaborate with our in-house multidisciplinary team including structural engineers, architects, and project managers
- Provide construction site support throughout the build phase
- Attend design team meetings, site visits, and client meetings
- Review contractor submissions and technical submittals for compliance with design intent
- Build strong relationships with clients, contractors, consultants and statutory authorities
- Deliver bespoke innovative solutions that meet aspirations whilst understanding financial constraints
- Prepare technical reports, presentations and documentation for client review
Essential Requirements- BEng or MEng degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related discipline
- Working towards or holding Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with IMechE, CIBSE, or IET
- Strong understanding of mechanical building services design principles, particularly HVAC, domestic water services, and drainage systems
- Proficiency in 3D BIM platforms (Revit MEP or similar) and CAD software
- Knowledge of energy modelling software and techniques
- Understanding of building regulations, British Standards, and CIBSE best practice guidance
- Familiarity with sustainable design principles, renewable energy systems, and low carbon technologies
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Strong problem-solving abilities with a questioning and challenging approach
- Ability to tailor solutions specific to project needs
- Relationship-focused with a client-centric approach
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Demonstrable experience in building services engineering consultancy
- Experience working across diverse sectors such as healthcare, public buildings, workplace, residential, MOD, infrastructure, industrial, retail, or sports stadia
- Track record of delivering projects on programme and within budget
Desirable- Chartered Engineer status (CEng MIMechE or CEng MCIBSE)
- Experience with medical gas services design
- Knowledge of HV/LV systems, emergency lighting, and fire detection systems
- Familiarity with BIM Level 2 workflows
- Experience with large-scale infrastructure and utilities projects
- Membership of CIBSE or IMechE
