Job Description

Mechanical Engineer – Built Environment Design Consultancy
Location: London
Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 per annum

We are working in partnership with a respected multi-sector design consultancy as they look to strengthen their mechanical building services team with the addition of a Mechanical Engineer in their London office. With a strong reputation for delivering innovative and sustainable solutions across the built environment, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking practice during an exciting period of growth.

This position is ideal for an engineer who’s eager to work across a wide spectrum of project types and RIBA stages, from early-stage design through to technical delivery. Whether it’s new builds or complex refurbishments, you’ll be supported by a team that prioritises knowledge sharing, structured development, and technical excellence.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Working within a collaborative design team to develop engineering solutions and technical documentation including specifications, reports, and detailed designs.
  • Delivering robust, compliant system designs using industry-standard software including CAD and Revit.
  • Carrying out site-based activities such as surveys, inspections, and data collection to inform and refine the design process.
  • Preparing calculations and documentation to demonstrate compliance with both client requirements and relevant legislation.
  • Coordinating with other design professionals and contributing to the integration of services across projects.
  • Attending meetings and design workshops, sharing insights and helping drive project delivery.
  • Ensuring all solutions are aligned with current regulations, H&S standards, and best practice guidance.

What They’re Looking For
  • Experience in mechanical design for building services, with solid involvement across key RIBA design stages.
  • Knowledge of BSRIA BG6 and other relevant industry frameworks.
  • A qualification in Building Services Engineering (minimum HNC/HND, ideally degree-level).
  • Proficiency in Revit is preferred; familiarity with IES or similar simulation tools would be a plus.
  • Strong communication skills, with the confidence to contribute to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ambition to continue your professional development; support is available for chartership routes (EngTech, IEng, or CEng).

What’s on Offer

This consultancy offers a dynamic working environment with an emphasis on professional growth and work-life balance. You’ll be exposed to a wide range of interesting projects, supported by experienced mentors, and encouraged to pursue your career goals - whether technical, managerial, or academic.

In addition to a competitive salary, the business offers a flexible hybrid working model, a range of wellbeing and lifestyle benefits, and a clear progression path for engineers who want to take the next step.
