We are currently recruiting for a CAD / Design Engineer to join a growing team in Dudley. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer with strong SolidWorks skills to play a key role in the design and development of cable containment products for a well-established manufacturing business.

The Role
The purpose of the Design Engineer is to design cable containment products that meet both industry standards and customer requirements. You will use 3D CAD software to create detailed models and drawings, ensuring designs are optimised for manufacture. The role also involves leading design projects, developing new product ranges, and improving existing ones.
You will work closely with production, technical, and commercial teams, as well as liaise directly with customers to deliver high-quality, manufacturable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support the design, development, and introduction of new products and the redesign of existing products
• Produce 3D CAD models and detailed production and customer dimension drawings
• Create technical specifications and loading tables
• Organise prototype production and carry out product testing to ensure correct function, form, and fit
• Populate product data including part codes and bills of materials (BOMs)
• Support CAM programming and produce flat patterns for manufacture
• Work closely with production teams to ensure designs are suitable for manufacture, making adjustments where required
• Troubleshoot and resolve production and manufacturing issues
• Design customer-specific solutions and produce associated technical documentation

 

• Answer technical enquiries and support internal technical and design teams
• Assist with product training and contribute to marketing materials where required
• Actively seek opportunities to improve existing designs for efficiency, performance, and ease of manufacture

Skills & Experience

• Minimum of 18 months’ experience in a design-related role within a manufacturing or industrial environment
• Strong experience with 3D CAD software – SolidWorks experience is essential
• Good understanding of manufacturing processes, ideally sheet metal
• Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems and ISO 9001
• Experience creating BOMs (knowledge of SAGE is advantageous)
• Good mathematical ability and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work across departments and with customers
