A major steel company in Wednesbury are seeking an experienced and proactive Maintenance Engineer to join the Laser Maintenance Department.
Annual Salary: £32,000 to £34,000
Weekly Hours: 7am to 3.30pm
You will be responsible for the mechanical and electrical maintenance of tube laser cutting machines and associated processes. This includes reactive and preventative maintenance, creating documentation, supporting continuous improvement, and ensuring minimal disruption to production operations.
Key Responsibilities:- Respond to and resolve mechanical and electrical breakdowns efficiently
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) tasks according to the maintenance schedule
- Diagnose and repair faults on tube laser cutting machinery and related equipment
- Log all maintenance activities using the internal maintenance management system
- Create and update Safe Working Methods (SWMs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Liaise with external suppliers for servicing, parts, and technical support
- Take ownership of critical spare parts stock and ensure inventory is maintained
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and safety across all tasks
- Communicate clearly with production teams and managers to minimize downtime
- Support improvement and maintenance projects within the Laser department and across the factory
- Report issues or concerns to the Plant Manager and Laser Production Manager
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and company rules
- Participate in planned and reactive overtime as required
Qualifications & Experience:- City & Guilds, BTEC, or Time-Served Qualification in an engineering discipline
- Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills
- Understanding of electrical/electronic circuits and systems
- Experience using PC-based maintenance and machine control systems
- Background in a manufacturing environment, ideally working with precision machinery
Desirable:- Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems
- Knowledge of tube laser cutting equipment or value-added manufacturing processes
