Overview
Two exciting new roles have become available for a Electrical and Mechanical Design Manager to join a reputable MEP client in the Bristol area. The company has a great project pipeline and this role will be based in the Bristol area and can be either permanent or a fixed term contract. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Electrical and Mechanical Design Manager to join a dynamic team and as a Design Manager, you will play a pivotal role in leading the design teams, overseeing the creation of innovative and visually stunning designs across various projects. You will be responsible for managing a team of designers, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of our organization while nurturing creativity and collaboration within the design team.
Core Responsibilities
Team Leadership
- Lead and inspire a team of designers, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to foster their professional growth and development, this will be a mixture of internal resources and external resource.
- Delegate tasks effectively, ensuring the workload is distributed evenly and aligns with each team member's skills and expertise.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages creativity, innovation, and excellence in design.
Design Project Management
- Oversee all aspects of design projects from conception to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and client expectations.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders and cross-functional teams to gather requirements, define project scope, and establish project goals and objectives.
- Develop project plans, timelines, and resource allocation strategies to ensure projects are completed efficiently and effectively.
Design Strategy
- Develop and implement design strategies that align with the company's goals, brand identity, and target audience, in adherence with the design matrix’s and BG6 requirements.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in design, and integrate them into the design process to drive innovation and competitive advantage.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to translate business objectives and user needs into compelling design solutions.
Quality Assurance
- Maintain high standards of design quality and consistency across all projects, conducting regular reviews and providing constructive feedback to ensure deliverables meet or exceed expectations.
- Establish and enforce design standards, guidelines, and best practices to ensure brand consistency and visual coherence across all channels and platforms.
Relationship Management
- Cultivate strong relationships with clients, vendors, and external partners to understand their needs, preferences, and feedback, and incorporate them into the design process.
- Act as a primary point of contact for design-related inquiries, feedback, and requests, and proactively address any issues or concerns that may arise.

Essential Knowledge:
Design Principles and Theory
- Understanding fundamental design principles such as balance, hierarchy, contrast, and alignment is essential for creating visually appealing and effective designs.
- Familiarity with design theory, including colour theory, typography, and composition, enables Design Managers to make informed decisions and provide valuable feedback to their team members.
Digital Engineering
- Proficiency in industry-standard design software such as IES, Revit, Amtech, Hevacomp, Cymap is essential for creating and editing design assets.
- BIM understanding and COBie understanding, to work with BIM Managers.
Design Project Management
- Strong project management skills are essential for overseeing design projects from conception to completion.
- Knowledge of project management methodologies.
Desirable Knowledge:
- Good knowledge, of wider design elements i.e structural and civils.
- Understanding of contractual clauses and types.
- Good working knowledge of programming and sequencing for procurement and build phases.
